Progress in Volume II

As promised, work on Volume II is well under way. I estimate that about a third of the book is done; I hope to publish it by the end of the year.
The format it follows is the same: notes on theory, followed by solutions to problems contained in Irodov's book:"Problems in General Physics." And finally, problems from elsewhere. As before, the use of diagrams is lavish; and the formatting has improved a bit, owing to feedbacks received from users of Volume I.

IIT JEE Physics

I have finished writing Volume I of my two- volume series “IIT JEE Physics Problems and Solutions .“ It will be available  on the Notion Press  at https://notionpress.com/read/iit-jee-physics-problems-and-solutions-volume-i with effect from   April 2016. The price of the book has been set at Rs. 395.I have already started Volume II which will be available six months from now.

This is an excellent resource for high school students who are determined to acquire the confidence and skill to tackle the IIT JEE Physics Paper through self-study.Volume I of this book covers statics, dynamics, thermodynamics and liquids.Volume II covers electricity, magnetism, light, sound and modern physics.

This volume contains solutions to more than 400 problems from Irodov's "Problems in General Physics" that are within the scope of the IIT Joint Entrance Examination syllabus. There are other problems and solutions as well. The solutions are sound, short and crisp, and the use of diagrams is lavish.

An important component is the 100 pages of notes, which are concise compilations of theory and results needed to solve the problems. Also important is the fact that the maths used is restricted to the Class XII level.

I reproduce the book cover below, followed by some screenshots:

To explain the inspiration for this book, I reproduce the Acknowledgement below:

I have had in my possession for some time the hand-written papers consisting of solved problems and tutorial notes in Physics prepared by the late Dr. Ram Gopal Chatterji(1922-2000) who spent much of his entire working life as Professor teaching Physics to undergraduate students of Engineering at IIT Kharagpur.

Dr. Chatterji loved teaching, campus life and students and in turn received their love and affection. On his retirement in 1982, he settled in Kolkata, and quickly built up a reputation as the finest tutor in Physics in this region for Class XI and XII students preparing for the IIT Joint Entrance Examination. He had a penchant for solving problems in physics in the simplest and shortest manner possible. For these students he never used maths beyond the Class XII level. He continued teaching almost till his death.

I had the fortune to closely interact with him and closely understand his teaching methods and style. His papers, which he carefully retained, deserve compiling and publishing. Now that I have the time available, I have done so.This book, the first of two volumes, is the outcome. In addition to being a tribute to his memory, it will benefit the entire student community.
